Strengths
- Understanding how things connect across complex IT landscapes and business processes
- Sharp analysis and getting to the heart of the matter
- Explaining complex ideas through analogies, so that they stick
- Depth across the SAP HR portfolio over three decades
- Asking the uncomfortable question when everyone is already nodding
And weaknesses
- Administration and routine work are not my strength. That’s why I offer short interventions rather than ongoing operations.
- I have led successful projects before, but project management is not my strong suit.
- Whilst I can still configure various aspects in SuccessFactors and beyond, I’m not the most efficient configuration consultant or developer any more.
- In HR systems from other vendors (e.g. Workday, Personio, Oracle) I have no technical knowledge.
Why Africa appears in an HR IT consultancy
I have been connected to the nature and cultures of eastern and southern Africa for many years, as a traveller, as a trained field guide, and as someone who keeps running into exciting ways of thinking there – ways of thinking that are often missing from HR IT discussions in Europe. The language that dominates HR IT conferences stands out, too:
- Africa: “Why not?”
- Germany: “Yes, but…”
Ecosystems have been solving problems for millions of years that organisations still fail at: using resources efficiently, cooperating without central control, adapting to changed conditions, using diversity as a stabilising factor. I have written about it too: “Is corporate HR smarter than millions of years of evolution?” (in German).

My connection to ORBIS People
My day job is with ORBIS People, and gladly so. The idea behind it: as a boutique consultancy, helping organisations shape their digital HR optimally with the full SAP solution portfolio, but without the enormous cost and rigidity of the large system integrators. But what excites me most is the great team.
Hekima Advisory complements that: very short interventions and small projects that deliver high value on their own, especially against the backdrop of the upheaval HR IT is currently going through.

The name says it all
Hekima is Swahili standing for wisdom, experience, sound judgement and intelligence.
Advisory is a deliberate distinction from “consulting” and similar terms that have become synonymous with long projects and large teams.
Together: targeted interventions with a small time investment that deliver high value through experience and intelligent analysis. A nod to artificial intelligence in the name is not entirely unintended.
The baobab tree in the logo stands for wisdom and longevity, for the fact that even in times of frighteningly fast change we have to think long term. It is also known as the “upside down tree”, turned over by the gods: the image for the change in perspective that good advice has to bring.
“Hekima ni mali.”
Hekima (wisdom) is wealth.
